The Tenth of May

The date we have set as I am sure you have figured out already is May 10, 2008. I met Ben about two years ago and my life has not been the same since. I would not say it was love at first site but definitely attraction and fate. It happened on a Saturday afternoon. Ben and I were sort of disagreeing all day, it is funny now but that day it was sad. He told me he decided he was going to the gym and I said ok, I will see you when you get home. I went into the bathroom and started getting ready for work. Here is a little piece of information when Ben goes to the gym he is always back usually within an hour and a half. This time though it was beginning to get later. I just figured he had stayed longer. He walked in the door and I could tell something was different. I asked him how the gym was and he replied I did not go to the gym. At this point I was like what do you mean you didn’t go? He then walked out of our bedroom and I continued to get ready.

I am getting emotional just writing this and thinking about how wonderful it all was. How am I ever going to make it down the isle? Ok back to the story, so Ben comes into the bathroom gets on one knee and says, “Amanda Brown will you marry me?” then he pulls the little black box with the ring in it from his gym shorts, Tears just poured out. I did not even look at the ring I just hugged him and kissed him and did not stop. Finally he placed the ring on my finger and I was in ahh and could not stop shaking, smiling, and of course crying. I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life; I know I would not have chosen anything different. From this point the tears began to slowly fade but the smiles on both of our faces still had not and never will. I never dreamed there was anyone so wonderful out there.

I consider myself the luckiest girl in the world, he is the man of my dreams and I could not ask for anything more. I had asked him if he had talked to my dad, and he said, first he went to the jewelry store to pick up the ring then he went to my dad’s to ask for my hand. Although Ben did not exactly need his permission, just the fact that he asked reaffirmed everything. He had told me that my dad was outside in the front yard cutting down a tree and had a saw in his hand, and those of you who know my dad it could not have been easy. My dad did not say much except, “I know she will say yes.” The funny part to all of this was it was in the bathroom, I had just finished putting my make up on, which by the way was all over my face after all the tears, and I could not spend the rest of the day with him, I just had to go to work like nothing happened and my whole life did not just change.

At first when people would ask I would just tell them it happened at our house, because I was not sure how to tell people Ben asked me to marry him in our bathroom, but it was always a place we could go a be alone if we had a party or just a few friends over, it is crazy the places that can become special to people. I guess the greatest thing is that it did not matter where it happened, when it happened, or what I looked like, we just knew it was right and we are so much in love. Together forever and ever.
